It’s official – I’m addicted to AI. As tools such as Chat-GPT and MidJourney take the world by storm, the pace of acceleration will continue to develop more quickly than most can keep up. Many are worried about the disruption of AI to our labor market. I’ve decided to use it as a tool for my own productivity and curiosity. I’ve also been an active participant in the growing Makeshift community where 3,000+ members share their AI-related tips, ideas, and accomplishments. Below are some of my recent experiments.
MidJourney – Nocturnal Animals (claymation-style images)
MidJourney – Historical Selfies
MidJourney – Werewolf City (action film stills)
WavTool – Synthwave Demo
WavTool is an AI-powered music production platform that certainly feels like a work in progress. Chat based prompts allow you generate and adjust various tracks and sequences similar to Ableton Live or Logic. While I had fun with the experiment, I found the instrument plug-ins to be a little too limiting. Within this space, I’m excited to see what Reason, Ableton, and Apple (Logic) are planning to implement.
ChatGPT
With all AI platforms, I’ve found that highly-intentional human guidance is paramount to getting the desired results. I often take a 50/50 approach where I manually fill in the gaps after AI gets me halfway home. So far, I’ve used ChatGPT for myriad use-cases:
• Writing MidJourney image prompts
• Assistance drafting work-related emails
• Providing recommendations to improve my writing
• Drafting lyrics with a specific theme and tone
• Recommending recipes with a selection of on-hand ingredients
I mostly enjoy ChatGPT’s assistance to answer life’s unexpected ponderings 🙂
